That's a really good collection, would be nice if you could navigate it by country as well, oh well. Also some (read: almost all) of the background static really needs some work.

"God Save The Tsar!" hurts my ears.

Don't Bite The Hand That's Feeding You doesn't seem to be a bad song if you don't mind lyrics. It doesn't link properly with the URL tag so just do something with this:
http://www.firstworldwar.com/audio/Walter Van Brunt - Don't Bite The Hand That's Feeding You.mp3

La Canzone del Grappa ('Mount Grappa') has a good sound to it and is a very clean audio file.

You're right, this version of "God Save the Tsar" would be perfect.

These are all good, but you are all forgeting the most important song that truly captures the War in the Air on the Western Front:

Snoopy verse the Red Baron

I have the Irish Rovers Version

I was thinking more along the lines of a Russian Choir singing it. It sounds much better. I have a version of it, without any of the wear, it was recently recorded.

Have managed to download the main theme from Lawrence of Arabia as well as the British marching band music that can be heard in the film 'Voice of the Guns'.

Music

Is it alright if we propose adding new music to the soundtrack for the mod or will this get us into licensing problems?

If we are allowed I propose adding country specific music.

Germany - Die Wacht Am Rhein, Deutschland Uber Alles.
Austria - Radetzky March
Russia - Bozhe Tsarya Khrani (although Russia is very well covered with Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture)
France - La Marseillaise
Britain - God Save the King, Land of Hope and Glory
Italy - Inno di Mameli
USA - Battle Hymn of the Republic
Japan - Kimigayo

Nursey!

Opening theme from Blackadder 4!

Do we prefer instrumental or voice for the tracks?

And of course once USSR pops up, the USSR anthem and Internationale.

How do we make the tracks country specific though, the music.txt just has all the file names in it and everything is played.

Either is fine.

I do not think you can make the music country specific as far as I know. Try asking the C.O.R.E. guys, they are masters of the code as far as I am concerned, so they probably know if it is possible.

What proportion of the download would extra music files take up? Would it be a significant enough amount for them to be excluded, or do they not take up that much room in comparison with other parts of the game?

I'd say extra music files would take a very large chunk of the size of the mod. May be wise to make a "mod only" patch and another one with just the music. Among other things, not everyone is willing to spare massive bandwidth to download old tunes, especially if they are more into hearing thrash metal/jazz/hip hop/something else when playing HOI.

You couldn't go far wrong with Those magnificent men in their flying machines to capture the dashing spirit of our splendid chaps in the Royal Flying Corps.
