In Soba

Solomon seems uneasy. Readdressing the Omanis, he speaks.

"Of course I meant 50% the usual tarrifs I charge. A system I devised from studying Omani ports when I was younger."

Regaining his composure, he leans forward in his throne and smiles.

"Your suggestions to curb slavery are acceptable. I will grant permission for you to build stations and inspect your own ships. As for the somali slave trade, we do not take moslems. Only members of pagan tribes are taken by our ships by penalty of death. They are then sold and eventually become devout christians or moslems. Truly, we are doing the work of Allah. Wouldn't you agree?

Please inform the Imam I would have both a man of religion and a man of politics from Oman in my court. I feel strongly that Oman's position can greatly faciliate our kingdoms imports from India. May our countries live in peace and grow rich, supplying the needs of the other..

Go in peace friends. May Allah bless and take you safely back to Muscate."

An arabic man kneels to the Imam and bows his head before speaking.

"Great Imam of Muscat,

I am sent before you as a followup of your recent envoy to King Solomon in Soba. I am Uthman al-Yahyâ. I would like to speak with you about possible trade treaties and the future relationship of Oman and Nubia.

The king apologizes if any of your men in Soba were insulted. Please understand his arabic is not as fluent as he would like it to be and his words may have been misunderstand. It is a simple misunderstanding and one we hope will not be detrimental to our friendship.

Your unique religion interests us. Would you be willing to send a holyman to Soba to preach it to the court? They are all very interested in these almost unheard of branch of Islam.

The King and his court are adamantly christian, but are open minded and always interested in being exposed to new ideas.

The King has instructed me to inform you for the next two years all Omani vessels will pay 50% the usual tarrif while in our ports. You are also granted permission to construct trading posts along the coastline near Suakin. These may be defended by Omani military forces but we ask you restrict their numbers below 100 men.

May Allah bless you great Imam and guide both of our nations into peace and prosperity"

The man remains kneeling low and slowly withdraws from the court.

The representative from Egypt enters.

“Most Honorable Imam of Oman,

The Mamelukes and Oman has an alliance where it is stated that if any of the them is attacked, the other will come to the defense for his brother. Now the devilish Bishop of Rome, leader of the Papal state have declared war against the Mamelukes. Aden has already fullfilled her pledges, now we ask that the Omanis do it to.”

The representative from Egypt enters,

“Most Honorable Imam of Oman,

The heretics have decived us. It is clearly now, that it is the sunnites who is the warmongers in this great conflict that have risen over the horisont. The Sultan of the Mamelukes have been decived, it looks like co-existens with the followers of the crusifed one is easier then with heretic sunnites.”

In his study in his humble castle at Soba, where the nile river splits into the wildlands of Africa, King Solomon sat down and wrote it all down.

The memories of his youth, the wealth of his nation, the various discussions he'd had with Genoans and Omanis. It was brilliant.

The pain of his youth could have been avoided. His years as a slave in Oman and Africa would never happen to another. The treaty he held in his hands would ensure that. The Omani had said regulation of the slave trade. But Solomon would go one step more. The complete codification, regulation and commercialization of the slave trade into one central company with several branches.

He already ordered a new building built in Sennar. Complete with offices, its very own dockyard, and slave pens in the lower levels. Now, all that was left was to let his diplomats do their work and find members.

*****

Treaty for the Organization of People Exporting Countries ( OPEC )

Article I: Central command

All members shall send a representative to Sennar in Nubia to oversee operations and ensure fair business practices. Each shall have his own quarters and office made available to him. Meals and a wage shall be provided depending on the wealth of the Nubian OPEC company.

Article II: Opening new branches

All member countries may open offices in their own nations to keep the market wide and varied. These should be labaled as your country name OPEC company. For example, should Gujurat create one it shall be called the Gujurati OPEC company.

Article III: Regulation of Slavery

All member countries have their citizenry exempt from slaves except where allowed by the lord of the realm. No Christian or Moslem may be enslaved except where the slaver involved was sanctioned by the state of origin.

Article IV: Supplier Nations

All supplier nations shall send slaves to Sennar for holding. Should an additional base be built to the north for northern shipping, slaves should be sent there as well. Supplier nations shall receive 60% of the gross profits from the sale of their slaves.

Article V: Shipping Nations

All shipping nations shall pick up branded slaves from either Sennar or a local branch of OPEC. They may then ship them to their assigned market, where applicable. Shippers receive 40% of the profits plus any side bonuses but should turn in 60% of payment received to the central command in Sennar for redistrubution to supplier nations.

Article VI: Royal taxation

The King of Nubia shall receive a tax of 10% of all profits flowing into Sennar. All other branches shall receive 5% to their host nation's treasury.

Article VII: Death of Slaves

Shipping nations are responsible for all slaves provided by the suppliers. Should they be killed, or die enroute to their destinations the shipping nation must pay the supplier 30% of the slave's head price.

Article VIII: Leadership

Leadership of OPEC will be determined on an annual basis by vote. All votes are to be handed in private to the Nubian King who will announce the leadership of OPEC. As host country, Nubia will assume the first year of leadership ending in 1428. Should the leader country be annexed, or should a tie occur in voting, leadership will be assumed by the King of Nubia.

Sheikh Ghazi and vice commander Amer bin Hamad, both with very grim expressions, enters before the Imam.

”Yes?” The Imam begins. “Have you found out anything more? Is there any truth behind the rumors?”

Sheikh Ghazi looks a little uncomfortable.

“Ah... Yes... Amer, tell his holiness what you have been able to find out”

“Alas, Lord” Amer continues, “It seems that all our suspicions were true.”
“Our scouts have reported highly suspicious troop formations along the border. It also seems like several companies are exercising further inland. We’ve also received word from Omar in Cairo that the Sultan has refused to answer the call for help in the war against the Hedjaz. They are Sunni, that’s all I can say. And have we ever been able to trust the Sunni?

“No” the Imam replies, “Not before and apparently not now”

“And as if that isn’t enough” Sheik Ghazi continues “I’ve received complains from our traders that ships from Aden have stopped them from entering the Red Sea. A few of our ships have also been reported missing”

“Send for a scribe at ones!” the Imam demand.

The men bow deep and leaves. As Sheik Ghazi exits the room a smile starts spreading across his face.

The Imam, who was currently dictating to the scribe at his side, looks distractedly at the White Lion ambassador.

“Ah yes, Shiite you say? You are free to stay in my lands of course. If you excuse me I have pressing matters to deal with. Those dishonorable Sunnis are bringing me nothing but troubles.”

He turns back to the scribe and continues with his letter.

Amer bin Hamad enters before the Imam.

“Lord, I have bad news.”

“Yes, Amer, go on”

“A company of about 500 Adeni riders crossed our border two days ago and raided a few villages and a boarder garrison”

What?!” The Imam stands up and shouts.
“They think they can get away with this?! They’ve must be mad to think they can win! Not even a word from those filthy Sunnis! Do they think they still can take us by surprise? Send for a scribe immediately!”

He sits down again and says in a little calmer voice.

“Make it happen Amer. And send back Mohammed from the north. And were is that scribe?”

"Minor" TRADE EVENT

Some nations are not as active as others but still their merchants are quite active or those countries simply occupy important spots. They may have also signed some good agreements or are part of certain trade organizations.

1. Good trade raises the morale of the populous......... (+1Tech and +1Morale for 1 year )
2. Good trade aids the artisans........... (+1Tech for 1 year )
3. Traders break even.
4. Pirates and Bandits took all the profit
5. Bad losses by traders. ( -1 Morale for 1 year 1 in 4 chance of effect) otherwise an infamous charecter is revealed in the lands comerce. Please RP the feind at least once.
6. Bad losses by traders. *Trade agreements colapse . Your nations incompetance seems to blame ( -1 Moral, 1 in 4 chance of effect, -1 tech for 1 year)

* Trade agreements colapse...... you may not enter any other trade agreements for one year.
NOTE: Good RP will regularly effect these rolls.

* Oman: active, good trade RP, good agreemnts, memeber of some muslim trade alliances (-2 to roll) ( 2 Rolled including modifier) Good trade aids the artisans (+1Tech for 1 year )
