Priority:Controlling France and low countries, maybe some german minors like Köln, Munster, Berg; hopefully Italy(I love controlling the pope )
Colonizing, probably focus on africa and the pagans overthere like zimbabwe
Religion: promoting catholicism
Economy: focus on own TC


This evening first update on the period 1419-1429;

01-01-1419: Start of the game: our great leader is John the Fearless


He has impressive stats on the diplomatical and military level. John still believes he can take over the French crown and therefore closely follows the movements of the superior English army in the French territory.


Previewing there will be a lot of trouble with the dauphin John orders 6k cavalry to be formed. Directly he seeks alliance with Savoy, but this nation choses to form an alliance with the Dauphin. John sees the danger that Savoy can impose and orders the army of Flanders to move to Franche-Comté.

01-02-1419: 1 step towards land
04-03-1419: Switserland joins our alliance with Brabant, Cleves and Lorraine.
03-09-1419: England breaks the resistance in Picardie and now starts sieging Paris.
11-09-1419: The dauphin wants to meet John the Fearless in Montereau to talk about a possible alliance. Seeing that John doesn't wish to join forces with the dauphin, he orders his men to kill John and his guard. Philippe III the Good swears he will use everything in his power to destroy the dauphin and unify France under Burgundian rule.

09-03-1420: All hope for France is lost. England is laying siege on the provinces of Nivernais and Champagne.
09-08-1420: Champagne falls in Henry V's hands.
29-10-1420: Finally Nivernais accepts the English Victory
02-12-1420: Diplomats reach an agreement: Picardie, Normandie and Caux are granted to England.

23-01-1421: Everyone starts choosing a side. England and Burgundy reach an agreement at Troyes. For Philippe it's an golden opportunity to take revenge on the Dauphin. This means that Burgundy no longer controls her military alliance with Brabant, Cleves, Lorraine and Switserland, which will cause some trouble later


28-01-1421: Few days later Bourbonnais chooses the dauphin's side, shortly followed by Orleans
14-02-1421: The 100 years wars reaches the final stage: the clash between England and Dauphiné starts.
01-03-1421: Philippe takes a loan and uses his new money to buy 9k cavalry and to promote a tax collector in the rich province of Flanders.
03-03-1421: The old alliance of Burgundy declares war on England
08-03-1421: Duke Philippe is preparing his war against the Dauphin and accepts Henry as heir of France, meanwhile Brabant accepts Philippe as their lord and the two nations create a new alliance.


01-04-1421: Burgundy declares war on the Dauphin, meaning Brabant is now at war with the Dauphin and England
01-05-1421: New loan taken, again used for 11k infantry and tax collector for France-Comté
01-08-1421: Savoy is whitepeaced out of the war
01-09-1421: Third loan taken to raise extra troops
22-10-1421: Provence is whitepeaced out of the war, meaning we have succeded in isolating the Dauphin
26-10-1421: Jean de Pressy breaks the resistance in Berri and takes control of the Dauphin's capital

26-01-1422: Champagne falls in Burgundian hands and immediatly joins England
19-02-1422: Burgundy now controls Lyonnais, the rich trade center of the Dauphin
09-03-1422: Meanwhile in Flandren art reaches a high point with the "Vlaamse primitieven". The exponent of these artists is Jan Van Eyck and the magnificent painting "Het Lam Gods".

06-09-1422: King Henry V dies and leaves England in the hands of a little boy Henry VI
10-09-1422: Burgundy now controls the province of Vendée
22-10-1422: In Paris, the insane King dies and now the little boy Henry is king of France, Philippe politly refuses to be the regent of France, since he doesn't want to be to involved in English politics.


10-11-1422: Brittany joins the Alliance of England and the Irish minors.
19-11-1422: Nivernais falls in English hands and directly joins England

22-01-1423: England is having trouble with the war against my old alliance(Brabant, Cleves and Lorraine) and grants Nivernais to Burgundy
24-02-1423: England wants to keep Burgundy on her side and signs a new treaty at Amiens.


02-07-1423: The people of Poitou surrender to the powerfull forces of Burgundy
10-07-1423: Brabant annexed Orléannais

01-01-1424: Duke Philippe starts his military career.
08-04-1424: Maine and Anjou are now under strong English control
14-07-1424: England keeps looking for Burgundian help and grants small Counties to Burgundy


08-09-1424: The last army of the Dauphin is destroyed and its a matter of time before all his provinces are under English or Burgundian control.
27-10-1424: The relation between England and Burgundy is lowering, because of England's interference in the "Jacqueline de Hainaut" case.


27-11-1424: Brabant and Luxemburg honnor the testament of Jan of Bavaria and grant Holland and Artois to Burgundy. On the 6th of January 1425 Holland is granted to Burgundy. Brabant grants Artois to Burgundy on the 18th of April 1427.

09-01-1425: Finally victory is achieved. Burgundy signs peace with the dauphin. The dauphin is now a vassal of Burgundy and needs to pay an one time "gift" of 175k ducats.


01-02-1425: England insults Burgundy with the demand of becoming a vassal of the English and French crown. Relations between England and Burgundy are now at their lowest point.


23-02-1425: Brabant opens the University of Leuven(not that important for Burgundy, but I study there, that's why I mention it)
08-10-1425: Brittany acknowledges Englands power and is their newest vassal.

03-03-1425: Our first loan is repayed
02-06-1425: Our second loan is repayed
08-06-1425: England surprises Duke Philippe with a declaration of war. Brabant joins on our side.
11-07-1425: An other surprise occurs: Friesland declares war on us. A white peace will be signed on 8-05-1429.
06-08-1426: Jean de Pressy lays siege on the province of Ile de France. Meanwhile Brabant gathers a lot of victories in the province of Orleannais
02-09-1426: Our third loan is repayed

14-01-1427: Relations with our vassal Dauphiné have improved a lot and they join our alliance and the war against England.

03-01-1428: Philippe the good conquers Vendee, our vassal Brabant now controls the city of Paris
16-07-1428: The Treaty of Delft is signed, Jacqueline de Hainault is forced to recognize Philippe's reign over Holland and Artois.

30-07-1429: The war against England is not going that good, we control Paris, Vendee, Gasgogne. They control Berri, Orleans, Holland. England gets tired of the war before we do and offer 200k ducats, we accept. Next time I wo'nt be taken by suprise again.

@ Catknight: Dauphiné is indeed more or less finished, just need to diploannex them, normally England won't be a though nut to crack, since they have a lot of difficulties keeping a large army in France, soon they'll have the war of roses as well

I've played the next ten years, again with a war against England and some new territories, important events for the Burgundian history,...
hopefully an update tomorrow morning(lets say within 14 hours), this evening I'm watching the Champions League game of Anderlecht(Belgian football/soccer team) against Lille

03-01-1430: Dauphiné declares war on Bourbonnais and Provence, Brabant and Burgundy join Dauphiné, but soon I whitepeace out and let Dauphiné do the dirty work.
11-02-1430: The people in Flandren revolt against the increasing power of Duke Philippe in local politics.
02-08-1430: Brabant is incorporated in the growing Burgundian Empire.


07-08-1430: Dauphiné is outraged about the fact Philippe refuses to grant semi-autonomy to Orléans.


10-08-1430: In order to attach the dutch nobility to him, Philippe establishes the Order of the Golden Fleece

26-08-1430: August is an important month in the Burgundian History. Philippe moves his court to the city of Brussels.


Philippe moves to the Koudenbergpalace. (This palace used to be the palace of the Dukes of Brabant and remained important in the real history as the home of the Burgundian dukes and later as the home of the Spanish Governors of the Seventeen Provinces. A great fire destroyed the palace in 1731. It completely disappeared in 1775, because of several rebuilding-projects in the city of Brussels. In this AAR it will remain the center of our politics)

06-04-1436: The revoltrisk in Flandern increases again because of growing unhappiness about the Dukes increasing power.

07-08-1437: England declares war on our great nation again, this time we are prepared. Our allies join, Brittany refuses to support England and breaks it vassalisation, later it joins the war, but as an completely independent country.
02-11-1437: Our great military leader Jean de Pressy dies (not in battle though)

08-01-1438: Dauphiné declares war on Tunisia(????) Switserland first refuses, but later rejoins our alliance.
27-03-1438: Philippe liberates Paris from the English.
01-04-1438: Calais falls in our hands.

07-05-1439: The past month, our alliance has captured other provinces.
Philippe wins several battles against English forces trying to recapture Paris, although we lose a lot of man. Therefore Philippe decides to accept the peace offer: Ile de France, Caux and Limousin are granted to Burgundy.

Keep an eye on Poland. My experience is when they've taken Pommerania out that early, they're on their way to taking out half of Germany, especially since your staying independent is going to weaken Austria.

Perhaps, but they lost Poznan in a peace deal with Brandenburg and they are a tiny nation at the moment, When they annex lithuania it will be a different story, I guess
