Thanks MateDow. Just a couple of things I'm wondering - have you inserted different division (and perhaps brigade) types for each of the major powers? I've been a bit disappointed in the vanilla game's use of generic division types for all nations. Why for example is a German Panzer Division the exact equivalent of a British or Italian one? It would be nice to know if you guys have altered this.
Also, why did you increase the cost for upgrading units? It seems to me that upgrading units already takes rather too long in the vanilla game. |

We do have a difference between 6 bn and 9 bn divisions which can be built. This does allow countries which used the different sized divisions to be differentiated. Quote:

Okay, thanks for the explanation MD.
BTW Has France been made more playable? It appears to be seriously nerfed in the vanilla game. |

CORE is on a totally different concept. Events are important, very much so, but more from a what-if point-of-view. Event chains are based on options present or plausible at the time, but not actually used, besides offering more insight in what really happened. Baylox's Munich chain alone is now over 200 events... Main goal is to recreate history around 90% of the time, say, but the game is less predictable this way. Furthermore it has a much more tech focus (completely revamped and expanded tech trees) as well as a broadly expanded unit spectrum. Further enhancements include a realistic 1936 OOB and build queue, 1:1 naval unit representation and such. So if you compare HSR to CORE you find the latter to be more balanced and offering a chance of an alternate history, while the former will more or less force a game along historic lines. Personally I'd prefer CORE any day of the week, and that includes HoI2 as well of course.

Hi,
I used to develop for HSR as well so I've got a pretty good insight as to the phillosophy there. HSR is primarilly intended to create a "historically difficult" WW2 campaign for a German player. With this phillosophy in place there are a number of tweaks that seek to recreate the real world situation. This means that if you wish to play a fairly "standard" campaign HSR is a very nice platform as it caters to this style of play. Another key feature to HSR is that the AI is given a lot of advantages while the player will typically receive penalties. This is intended to amplify the difficulty. In general, it is almost impossible to win as GER when playing on VH. However it also makes it even more difficult to win for many of the other powers, as almost all balancing is really based on play from a GER perspective. The end result is that HSR encourages (really requires) a lot of "tactical" play and micromanagement if you want to be sucessful. Also, HSR is "balanced" at VH and really does not play well on anything less than Hard. On the other hand CORE is designed for a more strategic campaign. As was already indicated, we attempt to model a wider range of possibilities and our event chains offer greater detail and options for alternative outcomes. This encourages a player to try alternate strategies while still supporting a fully historical track as well. We've also completely reworked the Tech and Unit structure to provide the best possible model for research and combat. Our tech trees offer meaningful choices and alternatives, rather than the simple straight line development from the HOI2 tech tree and reward real strategic thinking. Our units have been updated and reflect the RW capabilities of the applicable military formations as well as the game engine allows. mm |
