WritAAR of the Week: HMAS-Nameless
You've won the prestigious WritAAR of the Week Award...now what do you do? Just follow these two simple steps:
1.) The following Sunday (or seven days) after your win, you choose someone else and post their name in this thread (you should also post in their AAR to let them know they have won.) 2.) Enjoy your week in the spotlight. We hope it gives you a few more views during the week and perhaps even a few comments. * * * What you will find below are two different listings of the WritAAR of the Week Awards. The first is a list put together from EU2, HoI, Victoria and the full AARland WoW's, given out through the tireless efforts of coz1, Craig Ashley, Lord Durham, Stroph1, 2Coats, Valdemar, Vigilantsldr, Warspite (the originator) and the previous winners of the award in AARland. This is to assist in knowing who has won before so that we can both award through merit and still pass the reward around as much as possible. When the time comes that you are called to pass it on to the next individual (thanks to your own work during the previous week) please make sure to refer to this list before deciding on the person to get the award next. There is nothing wrong with passing it on to a previous recipient (and many times it is quite worthy), but make sure that enough time has passed, the award is significant enough to the person and that the level of current work is enough to warrant the choice. The second list below gives you an idea of who has won the award most recently so that you are aware of those that have been rewarded within the last 12 months. Let's try to pass this on to not just those that are worthy of such an honor, but also those who may never have won before. After all, this award is not just given to single out great writing, but also to encourage more of the same. Winning this award can many times spur an individual on to even greater heights, which is why many of us frequent this place to begin with. Good luck and happy reading. My idea is to re-establish the WoW for the entirety of AARland. The only way I could see that working is for it to be run like the fan of the week. This weeks winner is november as he has been writing several AARs over in the Vickie area and deserves some larger accolades for the work he was produced. Next Sunday (sorry - I was late getting this started), he will choose the next WoW. That person will choose after him and so on. Exactly like the fan of the week. However, to make this work right, we must try to stay on top of it, but there has been very little lag time in the FoW so I do not suspect any difference here. Remember folks - you will be picking a writAAR rather than an AAR. If this is successful, I would like to see if the showcase could not also be brought back in this same form. Feel free to go up to the gazette feedback thread if you wish to discuss it. I will make this first post the repository for the winners so there is an easy place to check on that. And the only other needed action will be for one of the mods to change the title as they currently do for the FoW. So, with that - step on up november and tell us about yourself. Congrats on the honor for it is surely deserved! Edit - you can check out his current work here

Many congratulations!
![]() However, doesn't this system have the potential of falling prey to some underhand conduct? For example, I could be chosen by the previous winner, who I could then choose next week myself, on the proviso that I receive the award the week afterwards. If we kept to the pact, we could keep up the swapping of awards every week almost for eternity.

I'm sure they aren't going to let one person continually choose himself. 'twouldn't be fair.

Exactly. The WoW will still be watched, if for anything to make sure the previous WoW passes it on. If it's going to work, it will require the winners to take on a bit of responsibility in choosing the next. If the honor is truly an honor, then I think they will. Otherwise the WoW ceases to be something someone really wants to win.

Wow!—WoW. Thank you! This is all the sweeter for being totally unexpected.
With my second AAR I’ve only recently begun to immerse myself in the rich AAR history we have—what a treasure! This is indeed an honor and I’m humbled to join the roster of august AARers, however modest my AAR scribbling might be. Thanks! I’ll be busy reading so I will be ready for Sunday. About me? Um… I currently work as a consultant in the computer industry. Back in my college days during the 80’s I worked for a game publisher in New York. So I’ve been a game fan for a long time. Also in my college days I drove a cab (yep, I was a New York cabbie), worked as a reporter, a teacher, and sold furniture. I still love New York city and look forward to every trip and visit. I love Paradox games, warts and all. I’ve played all of them and Vicky is my current favorite. My favorite writers are Balzac, and Dovstoyevsky. My favorite painters are Delacroix, David, and Ingres. I went to art school (proper training for the computer industry) and mornings you’ll find me in my studio overlooking Lake Erie. I live in Ohio with my wife and three children, ages 4-9, which explains why I have no free time.

Still somewhat overwhelmed about the WoW award and finding myself with the honor and responsibility of picking next week’s WoW, I thought I would sketch some of the things that will be guiding my selection.
After reading coz1’s AARticle about the new direction in WoW, I’ll focus on AARs recently updated—otherwise the task would be impossible! And as a Vicky player I feel duty bound to become familiar with the other games’ AARs. So if you’ve worked on an AAR for another game, don’t worry! I’ll try to get to all of the recently updated AARs. I like AARs of the fanfic type that also stay close to the game. I like compelling fanfic but I also like a lot of game play and strategy goodness. Knowing in advance that I’m bound to overlook many, if not most, deserving AARs, I promise to do my best. So I beg your indulgence as I turn toward this—admittedly impossible—task. Impossible because of the wealth of great writing found here in AARland.

I’ve had a delightful week in AARland reading one fine AAR after another—great stuff here, great stuff.
Although the writer of the week is intended to honor a writer and not a particular AAR, I restricted my readings to those AARs updated recently (since August). Even with that restriction, picking a single writer proved to be nearly impossible. The writer I’ve selected wrote an AAR that was well written and extremely clever in mixing fanfic and game play. So without further ado let me introduce the new Writer of the Week: Mettermrck. Mettermrck, step up and tell us about yourself.
