Mecklemburg

All over Mecklemburg, officials proclaim the following:

By orders of the most noble of all rulers, honourable Henry IV, Duke of Mecklemburg, let this be known all over the lands of Christianity:
The despicable traitors to the Duchy of Mecklemburg, the infidel servants of Satan, known as the Seven Counts of Mecklemburg, have all been found guilty in the following charges:
Treason, murder, conspiracy against the Duchy of Mecklemburg, conspiracy of assassination, theft of Duchal property, theft of Church property, etc. etc.

By verdict of our supreme Duke, hear this:

The Seven Counts are all to be executed by beheading with sword on the 12th (OOC: friday) in the courtyard of Wismar Castle.

Their lands will be confiscated and put under direct Duchal authority and for all eternity be governed as his own.

All dynastic claims to the lands of the counts are hereby cancelled according to law. No foreign branches of their families will be able to claim their lands within the Duchy of Mecklemburg

Their families will be stripped of all titles, privileges and possessions.

The wives and daughters of the counts will be put under supervision in different convents for the remaining part of their lives. They are recommended to join the orders and become nuns, thus finding God.

The male descendants of the counts will be put under supervision in different monasteries for the remaining part of their lives. They are recommended to join the orders and become monks, thus finding God.

May God have mercy on their souls

The University of Rostock

The entire uinversity of Rostock is in a frenzy. Several matters have suddenly come up, that acquires the attention of the professors. So, for a couple of weeks, the education is postponed. Some masters of law will travel to Bremen, where Duke Henry stands on trial for falsely accusing the Duke of Pommeria of being a liar, aggressor etc.
Another law team is departing for Rome, where they are to present evidence to the Holy Father, that the Seven Counts indeed did steal and misuse church property.
Finally, a smaller team is travelling towards Nürnbeg, to support the Mecklemburgian delegation there against any further outbursts from the Pommerians.
The leaders of the university are excited. If they prove to be a good support for Henry, then they will almost certainly be rewarded. Perhaps with that theological faculty, that they so desperately want to build?

Sir Wilhelm von Penrod speaks in the court of Mecklemburg:

Honorable Duke, your grace, my master Duke Philipp I of Hessen is greatly bothered by the growing schism between yourself and the Duke of Holstein. We wish for this gap to close as soon as possible, so we might unite for our common interests. My lord offers his wisdom and council as a mediator in this crisis. He believes he can forge an agreement between Mecklemburg and Holstein that would be beneficial for both. If this proposal is acceptable, please send to my lord your wants and needs in this matter, so that he may find common ground from an outside perspective.

von Penrod bows to the throne, and returns to his seat to finish some paperwork.

"The invitation was headed by an illustration."

"Most gracious, Henry, Duke of Mecklemburg,

As Saint Joseph took the Blessed Virgin to wed, obeying the will of the Lord and ensuring the childhood of Christ our savior, so in a much humbler way, we, Erich of the House of Wittelsbach, joyously extend our warmest invitation to join us with all your family at the Church of Mater Dolorosa in Nuremburg to observe and celebrate the most holy union of the Imperial House of Wittelsbach and the Royal House of Plantagenet with the marriage of His Most Serene and Pacific Majesty, Erich I, and Her Royal Highness, Annabella of England.

Cordially,
His August Imperial Majesty, Emperor Erich I
Her Royal Highness, Princess Annabella"

The Trial Against Henry IV

The trial has begun, and Adolf von Plau chooses to start…
He is reading through his papers and notes in the court room in Bremen. Behind him stands a couple of his secretaries for this occasion. Most of them are professors and doctors of law from the university of Rostock. In front of him sits Johann of Bremen, who is to judge in this serious matter. Adolf looks at the papers for the last time, then he starts his opening statement, addressed to Johann of Bremen:

“Most noble Richter von Germania. I am, as you all well know, Adolf von Plau, and I speak on behalf on my Duke, Henry of Mecklemburg. What I say and do here, shall be considered the same as if the Duke was here himself.
This is my opening statement. Here I will present the situation of this matter, and the views that my Duke has on this. The formal presentation of evidence will commence after the Pommerian party has presented their opening statement, as it is custom by Roman Law.”

The old Adolf coughs, and takes a sip of water.

“So, why are we here, gentlemen? Simple... My Duke has at the Imperial Diet in Nürnberg spoken his mind about his view on Joachim, Duke of Pommeria. The Duke of Pommeria found the words unjust and inappropriate. That we are all aware of. What is forgotten, I will tell now and later on.
Duke Henry was summoned to the Diet to explain his view on the Commerce Commission and explain the story behind his vassalship to Duke Adolf of Holstein. This was done, and my Duke thought that this matter was closed. But apparently Duke Joachim didn’t like the words from Duke Henry, so he jumped on my Duke, nearly screaming at him and scolded his highness. A fight of words continued, and the atmosphere was tense and evil.
When the smoke temporarily cleared, it was only because my Duke offered Duke Joachim his apologies. That came after a proposal from the Queen of England, since she is a personal friend of the Emperor. So, in the spirit of friendship and peace, my Duke once more retreated from rhetorical battle. But then it happened...”

Adolf pointed his finger at the Pommerians with a serious expression of face...

“Just when my Duke had stepped down and had accepted the Commerce Commission, spoken with friendly words to Duke Adolf and offered an apology to Duke Joachim, the Pommerian speaker attacked Duke Richard of Normandy, a close personal friend of Duke Henry. Not only did the Pommerian use totally unacceptable language, he also showed behaviour unfit of an Imperial ambassador. Everybody present that day agreed that the Pommerian had crossed the line. Attacking my Duke’s friend was the same as refusing the apology and friendship from my Duke personally. And the way that the words fell constitutes a severe attack on Duke Richard’s honour. Simply a disgusting behaviour!
That the words themselves came from the Pommerian ambassador is no excuse, since it was the ambassador that insisted on this trial. So, if the words of the ambassador are not valid, then we shouldn’t be here in the first place. No, we all need to accept that the words of the ambassador represents the words of Duke Joachim.”

Adolf takes a moment...

“So, what we have here is a Duke Joachim, that refuses an offered hand of friendship and apology. A man, that attacks other nobles with the most foul and devious language, very unfit to be spoken at the Diet. Just to make matters worse, he accused my Duke of being in the pocket of the Platagnet dynasty. Duke Joachim sees this family as a major threat against his newly won possessions.
In addition, the Pommerian speaker accused my Duke of being drunk! Yes, you all heard it... DRUNK! To accuse a Prince of the Empire of being drunk while attending the Diet halls is one of the worst accusations that I have ever heard at the Diet. And I have personally been there many times. No, I think that if anyone was drunk that day, it must have been the Pommerian, for he was definitely not thinking clearly.
Yes, so it is clear. The Pommerians broke the etiquette, and my Duke answered the charges and lies. Not an easy task from a man that only minutes before had to engage in a humiliating diplomatic retreat. But my Duke sets honour first of all. Maybe that is his greatest weakness, that he will not accept compromise when the honour of his friends or himself is at stake.”

Another moment passes, as Adolf pours himself some more water.

“Nobody is unaware that my Duke was being attacked at the time. So he chose not to be quiet. He spoke his mind, and the words he uttered represents the opinion of every true nobleman inside and outside the Empire. My Duke accused the Duke of Pommeria of being a liar, a warmonger, a rebel...
This defence here in Bremen will NOT excuse or apologise the words of Duke Henry. In fact, it is my intention to PROVE the validity of these accusations. We will do so by casting a light on the actions, words and lies that the Pommerians have made during the reign of Duke Joachim. Since nobody has dared this before, we consider it our DUTY to cast light on this matter. We will illuminate the dark in which the Pommerian monster hides. We will present the views of rulers from all over Christianity, and we will especially focus on the Swedish matter. For there lies the best proof of the true Pommerian intentions. In fact, I am in no hurry to get this resolved, for the more I show the true face of Pommeria to the world, the more the humiliation of Pommeria it will be. For my sake, let this trial last for years, if God will!
It is my job to prove that my Duke was telling the truth when he attacked Duke Joachim, and it is the job of the Pommerian prosecution to prove that my Duke is wrong. To prove, that Duke Joachim is a just, loyal, truthful, forgiving, Christian, noble, honourable, etc., etc. ,... man! And may I remind the Pommerians, that this time it is not enough simply to wave of the accusations and thus hide behind “dynastic rights” or the Emperor. This is a court room, and you WILL present real evidence or lose!”

He ends his opening statement...

”So, honourable Richter von Germania, this is how an outcome will be: If you rule that my Duke crossed the line when he confronted Duke Joachim, you will also say, that Duke Joachim is a peace loving, honourable, noble, forgiving, truthful, modest and JUST man. If you acquit my Duke, then you will join the rest of the European nobility when we say, that Duke Joachim is NOT the above things, that he in fact is the OPPOSITE! There is no in-betweens, no short cuts. The verdict must be clear!
Should you acquit my Duke, we demand a large, severe and consequent compensation for the unjust accusation. And, of course, an OFFICIAL apology from Duke Joachim himself! Preferably given to my Duke personally at the Imperial Diet before the Emperor himself.”

Adolf von Plau sits down and awaits the Pommerian opening statement...

The Presentation of Evidence in Rome

The old and respected professor of law at the university of Rostock, Albert der Alte, steps forward. He is the most well-respected master of law in the entire Baltic region, and thus head of the faculty of law at the university of Rostock. Other men of law know him very well, mostly as a skilled prosecutor in both secular and clerical matter. The old man has a terrible limp, as he enters the great hall before the Holy Father. After some thirty minutes of preparations, the veteran starts…

“My lords. You have asked for evidence of crimes against the church, committed by the Seven Counts. Hmm, I hereby present them.
The following confessions were acquired one week before the imprisonment of the Seven Counts. The first one is from Arckman von Kringel, a captain for Luther von Lauenburg, and the officer in command the 14th of December, 1429. He signed the following statement that was written down from his own testimony:

“We came to the Cistercian Monastery just outside Lauenburg, where we wanted to get some supllies for our journey to Wismar. The Duke of Mecklemburg had asked for some very important papers from count Luther, and we were to transport them all the way. Well, as I said, we came to the monestary and asked the monks for provisions. They refused. I had received no money for that sort of thing from my count, because he considered the clerical possessions in the region to be his own. So, naturally we broke in the gate and supplied ourselves with food, beer and fresh horses. And since my count is always in need of money, I personally took about 400 golden coins with me. After we dropped of the papers in Wismar, we rode back to Lauenburg and here I gave the count a full report and the money. He was very happy about that, and the next day he had bought a brand new warhorse.”

Later the monks of Sct. Bernards Monastery complained to count Luther, but they were very brutally thrown out of the city of Lauenburg. The monks then complained to the Bishop of Schwerin, and he in return brought the case before the count again. He, Luther, refused to discuss the case at all.
Another incident, and much worse than the others, is this matter, which was witnessed by Gerhard Kleinman, a personal servant to the count of Rostock. The servant was present when this happened:

“The counts were all meeting at the Church of the Saints in Rostock, where they would discuss a very important matter after mass. They stood at the alter for a very long time, and discussed how they were going to get rid of the Duke. They then decided to take matter up when they visited the bishop in Schwerin. This they did the following week. They literally threw the bishop out of his own home, when about 150 countal soldiers occupied the diocese’s main bishop domicil. There they held a meeting for several days, emptying the food storage, inviting women to… hmm…, destroying the furniture and ripping the place for all valuables. As they said, fighting the Duke would cost a lot of money, and the church should pay its share to get rid of the Anti-Christ Henry.
The day after, when they were about to leave, the worst thing happened. The count of Lauenburg, in drunken frenzy, killed a monk, that had come to deliver some presents to the bishop. I think it was sheep. Then the counts laughed, and the bishop was warned, that if he ever told this to anyone, they would have his head. And they were not joking.”

I have several signed testimonies from all ranks of the clergy in Mecklemburg, that further strengthens our case. The counts have been very wild, since they didn’t fear the wrath of their overlord, Duke Henry. They considered him a weak ruler, which would never interfere with their plans or atrocities. I could mention hundreds of other smaller incidents, but the fact remains, that the counts have all violated the Holy Mother Church, in ways that only a heathen Turk would dare. So, I will not present any more evidence, unless your lordships wish so. Let me just say, that we have packed about fifteen big crates with case files for this journey.
You may not consider this violation of church property and life to be enough to condemn them all to death, but along with the other charges, the Mecklemburgian men of law feel that it is certainly enough to justify the death penalty.”

A letter arrives from Bretagne.

Hanseatic Liga,

I was just assuming, the Hansa, would care to consult ALL members before taking on a new trading partner. I hope you are not insulted by this act. However, in the case that you all agree to set up a Hansa guild and business here at Nantes, I and her grace would be most pleased. All merits and rules shall continue to apply to all Hansa merchants as well, as per economic reformation of Nantes. I would personally, wish to make a trade arangement, so that our trade shall be protected, despite war or strife. I am unaware of whom exactly is the Hanseatic Guild Master as of now, however, that is why I send this to our friends in Bremen and Mecklenburg, and our dear friends in Holstein. I shall be wishing for your approval. Thank you.

Signed--

A letter from Holstein arrives:

"Onto His Grace Duke Henry of Meclenburg,
honorouble knight of our noble Order of Two Lions,

My loyal vassal and dear friend, I send you this letter to Nurnberg from Kiel as like your friend and like your overlord. There are two things which can`t wait.

First I want to congratulate you with your marriage with noble English Pricess as England always was my good friend and I hope that this marriage will increase relations between England and all Hansa. May God save you and your family.

Onather thing i want to speak with you is your last conflict woth Pommerania. I can`t see what can make you so angree with noble Duke of Pommern. My representative in Diet informed me that you accused Joahimm of Pommern in many things which I personally can`t accept. My friend Joahimm is known as a man of word and honor as he never made anything against his oathes and promises. Pommeranians are great soldiers as they saved Empire from aggression of Lithuanians and Moldavians, they took a great participation at last Crusade, won a great number of battles with Swedish rebels… And how you my friend after all this can say such words? I can`t understand you because you was so peaceful and tactful at our last negotiations and now… Why did you start this conflict? Many kings all over the world don`t like position of foreign realms but they never started conflicts only if somebody isn`t `enough` good Christian and virtuous.

You did it at the times when we were so close to unite our trade unions, when Holstein stopped all conflicts with Pommern and became their good friend. How can I react on it? I am upset. I`m very upset because of this. And I only want to ask you, my friend, in the name of peace in North Germany to send a letter of apology to Joahimm and to stop this stupid conflict. It`s my wishes as Holsteinian and Schleswigian Duke, your overlord and Secretary of Scandinavia. I hope that you will listen my words.

Yours faithfully,

Adolf VIII, Duke of Holstein and Schleswig"

A letter arrives from Jean d'Augarvte of Nantes to the Hanseatic Liga.

Friends,

I would like to propose a mutual trading pact between our two realms, in order to protect our trading interests. Here is my proposal, please, sign it, for the benefit of trading partnership between us.

Sincerly,
Jean d'Augarvte

In the year of our gracious lord, Jesus Christ, of 1430, the free city of Nantes, and the Hanseatic Liga, hereby make a pact of non-aggression of markets. In the interests in trade, and profits, we hereby, sign this agreement, to continue free trade and good relations, despite any upcomming conflicts or hardships. This treaty, shall thus, prevent the Hanseatic Liga and the Duchy of Bretagne from embargoring one or the other, under any circumstances, in the mutual interests of profit and trade. This treaty is not permenant, and may be cancelled under severe circumstances by the mutual interests of the Duchy of Bretagne and the Hanseatic Liga. This treaty, shall be on placement for revision on the year of our lord, Jesus Christ, 1435. Critical points are made here:

--The Duchy of Bretagne and the Hanseatic Liga shall refrain from embargoing one another, and allow Breton Merchants and Hansa Merchants alike trade freely.

--Trade tarrifs cannot be positioned without the consent of both the Hanseatic Liga or the Duchy of Bretagne.

--The Duchy of Bretagne shall have a representative for the free city of Nantes in the Hanseatic Liga.

--Under severe circumstances, the Duchy of Bretagne shall protect the Hanseatic Liga, and likewise.

Any revisions to this acord, are welcomed by all parties, however, time is money.

Signed,
--Jean d'Augarvte

Hansa Trade Union Council Meeting in Bremen

Otto Kaufmann, still acting as chairman of the Hansa Trade Union Council, waited impatiently for the weekly meeting to draw to an end.
The councilmembers had discussed the usual points, such as complaints from merchants from the various nations, and at this meeting they had furthermore reached an agrement concerning the spice trade from Aragon, according to which Bremer and Gelrer merchants should sell 50 % of their spice cargo at the buying price plus 5 % to cover shipping expenses to their collegues from Mecklemburg or Holstein at spice markets set up in Bremen and Gelre.
Furthermore should the Hansa Guild House in Barcelone purchase spice through Bremer merchants, and resell it to all interested parties, thus securing that those Mecklemburgian and Holstein merchants who felt the 5 % to cover shipping expenses were to much, could sail to Barcelona and pruchase directly from the guild house as prices were close to purchase price.
Just before the meeting closed, Otto Kaufmann entered a brand new idea.
"Gentlemen, I ask you to consider this point, and present your views upon it at the meeting next week. You are of course most welcome to discuss it with your dukes.
I propose we offer the freed trade city of Nantes membership of the Hansa. Not the nation of Brittany, but the city of Nantes.
The Hansa charter states:
Quote:
In addition, the following change will be carried out. To be accepted as member of the Hansa Trade Union, the following criteria is changed:
-Any nation bordering the North Sea or the Baltic Sea can become a member, even if the nation in question has no large ports.
-Any city with port to the North Sea or Baltic Sea, can for the purposes of membership of the Union, count as an independent nation.
So the charter opens the possibility that Nantes can enter the Hansa as an independent city.

Furthermore, negotiations have been carried out between the Hansa, represented by the Bremer duke Johann III and the WHU to merge under the name of the Hansa. I ask the councilmembers their opinion of this matter.
The meeting is adjourned."

The members of the Hansa Trade Union Council slowly left the room.

Agustus Fuller was slowly negotiating the initial propositions concernin the merger of Hansa and WHU together with Duke Johann behind closed doors. However, he also attended to official Hansa Council meetings where he heard Macklemburgian opinion.

"Herr von Stargard,

It turly amuses me how you can mix politicks and trade. In Pommerania WHU rules without being ruled by the Greifs as this old House would never spoil their hands with trade. They are nobles and knights not merchants.

No offence intended of course.

However, I admit that the Greifs do support trade initiative amd merchants that is why WHU-Greifs relations are excelent. Still, we are in no way subject to the Pommern landlord. The more I observe Hansa the more worried I became as it seems merchant's freedom is limited here as political chains are used.

Know that I am notr here in the position of the petitioner but rather as equal bussines partner or even from stronger position. WHU corntroles the Baltic trade, we have such great ports and cities as Greifswald, Stettin, Danzig, Riga, Mitau... We have direct ling with Novograd and Pskov is assosiated with us.

We controle the trade of Poles and Liths, wheat, furs, lumber, wax, salt, honey, alocholes, linen and far east goods and many more are going through OUR hands.

We agree however to step back on one most prestigious point, we agree to give back our name to some extent in favour of Hansa. I don't know why but it sonds somehow better, more historic."

He smiles as he says that.

"Nevertheless, I am currently negotiating the exact proposition of the merger with noble duke Johann.

After we finish this we will present the paper in front of Hansa Council.

However, know that WHO will not totally subject to Hansa and WHU Council will want to preserve some of his autonomy.

That is all gentelmen. Thank you"

The executions...

An announcement is dispersed throughout Mecklemburg.

"The execution of the socalled Seven Counts of Mecklemburg is postponed until Duke Henry of Mecklemburg returns to oversee the executions personally. Until then, the prisoners will remain imprisoned in Wismar.

God bless Duke Henry of Mecklemburg."

Under very anonymous circumstances, a wedding is held in a small church in Nürnberg. No more than five people attend the ceremony. The idea is, that the ceremony should not steal the thunder from the larger wedding later in Nürnberg.
When it is over, princess Jessica of England has been married to duke Henry IV of Mecklemburg, thus cementing the good relationship between England and Mecklemburg.
The newly weds leave the church, and goes to the lodgings of the Mecklemburgian delegation, where they spend the night.
The next morning, Henry attends the Diet for the last time...

...

When Henry's last attendance at the Diet is over, the Mecklemburgian delegation packs it things and travel back to Mecklemburg.

Wismar Castle

The rain fell heavily as Henry looked down into the courtyard from his private chambers in the keep. Fifty soldiers of the Wismar Guard had lined up in a circle around the newly erected scaffold. On it stood von Plau, a priest... and the executioner, his entire face covered in black cloth. Von Plau was talking to the priest, the executioner was readying a very large two-handed sword.
Von Plau looked up at the Duke’s window, where only the Duke’s scarce silhouette was to be seen. Henry nodded down to von Plau, who then waved at some soldiers at a door in the western wing of the courtyard. The door was opened, and a man was then being escorted over to the scaffold. Henry recognised Heinrich von Schwerin, a personal friend to his late uncle. The former count received the final words from the priest. His head was then put to the chopping block. As Heinrich was praying for the last time, the executioner raised his sword and looked at von Plau, who then looked up at the Duke. Henry nodded back to von Plau, and he nodded to the executioner. The sword fell heavily to the chopping block, thus separating the head of Heinrich from his body. With a stream of blood leaving the dead man’s body, the head tumbled down from the scaffold and landed on the wet ground. The priest mumbled something and made the sign of the cross, as the next man was being brought to the scaffold. It was the former count Erich von Stargard. The scenario was repeated and another head hit the ground. And so it continued with Wilhelm von Güstrow, Karl von Parchim, Magnus von Rostock and Friederich von Wismar. Six men had found their end on the scaffold’s chopping block.
Finally the man behind it all was brought into the courtyard. Luther von Lauenburg, self-proclaimed Duke of Lauenburg, but by law only a count of Mecklemburg. Henry watched Luther’s every movement with great interest. Luther was dressed in a simple long piece of filthy cloth, like that of a beggar monk. His hair was long and greasy. Grey from his time in the dark, filthy dungeon. But Henry had to give it to him. Luther walked with pride and defiance towards his coming end. He entered the scaffold with his head held high and received the words from the priest without any sign of panic. As his head was put to the chopping block, he suddenly looked up at Henry, to the Duke’s great surprise. The two enemies looked at each other for several minutes. The executioner had already lifted his sword, and looked at von Plau for some kind of reaction, but von Plau looked up at the Duke. A lightning illuminated the dark skies, as Henry finally nodded, without moving his eyes from Luther’s. Von Plau nodded at the tired executioner, who in return immediately ended Luther’s life.
Henry sighed and looked at the rainy skies. He felt pretty empty inside, so he drank a glass of wine... and then two more. Then he walked to his private chapel, where a priest was waiting to give him absolution.
Later that night, seven bodies were cast into an anonymous grave at an unknown location.

A Knightly chap clad in the colors of the grand Teutonic Order arrives in the court, and bows before the Duke;

"My lord, Henry IV, Duke of Mecklemburg. I am Gerhard von Feuchtwangen, loyal servant to the honourable Hermann von Erlichshausen, Grand Master of the Teutonic Order.

He sends his greetings, and asks that I may stay as his ambassador to your fine Dukedom."

A man enters the castle in Wismar, he bows before the Duke, and hands him a letter.

"Dear Duke Henry of Mecklemburg
I, Duke Erich V von Saxe-Lauenburg has temporary gotten the power over Saxony while Prince Georg himself is in France at the will of Emperor Erich. My work is to rule Saxony and do what is best for its politics both inside and outside our boarders. Anyway, during my temporary reign I have overviewed the situation and found that you seems to be a man of nobelty and that I believe we share common intrests in one of two things. Anyhow I believe that our diplomatic relations are far to poor, and because of that I now send you a man from Saxony, Carl Johann von Heuptlotz, who I hope will please you as the Ambassador of Saxony in Mecklemburg, who I believe is the one delivering you the letter. I hope that you views this as an act of friendship and a pleed for greater relations.

Duke Erich V of Saxe-Lauenburg, Temporary Regent of Saxony."

The man delivering the letter bows before the Duke.

All rolls were done by Josefgiven

It seems the last year was EXTREMLY good for the trade revenues, keep up the good work lads and may JG roll those events forever and ever

NOTES:

If there is no RP in the setting up and continued use of the
agreement there will be penalties to the roll. With excellent or good play, the opposite will be the case.

If an alliance, trade agreement or anything else springs from nowhere, there will quite probably be a bad event if I notice.

Any complaints or comments on these events to Longinus' PM inbox, please.

There has been a lot of quality RP in Scandinavia recently. It shall be remebered, but please bear in mind that those rolls are for December, as I didn't manage to post it before the freeze.

If you decide to play the trade aspect of the game, RP it. Otherwise, there will be negative modifiers upon the rolls (Trade is collapsing, merchants are being pushed back etc.) or simply there will be no roll for them.

Massive production of trade agreements is okay but will often lead nowhere.

Thank You

A new chance in the East

Word is spread throughout the Duchy of Mecklemburg, and it is aimed at the knights that have survived the recent cleansing of the rebellious nobility. This means, that the knights that receive the news from the Teutonic lands, are not counts, barons or such. They are modest, well-serving knights, in the service of smaller masters than the Seven Counts were.
Nonetheless, the news are as follows:

"A new order to the glory and teaching of the word of Christ is being established in Riga in this very time. The new Order of the East invites noble and true Christian knights of the realm of Mecklemburg to join the Order of the East, as their champion, Freidrich von Müritz-Lychen has done. Let the champions of war abstain from fighting other true Christians, and let these warriors of God help in spreading Christianity to the pagan east-dwellers."

The times have changed in Mecklemburg. It is being said within military circles, that Henry of Mecklemburg will rely more on mercenaries in the future, and that the military role of the knightly nobility is close to being over. Therefore, a large number of knights are leaving their homeland and begin to seek shipping possibilities to Riga. The ports of Lübeck, Wismar and Rostock are suddenly bussing with knights, warhorses, heavy armour and weapons... the knights of Mecklemburg seek new opportunities of glory and honour in the East...
