Lightbulb Of Communists and Cubans, Or...

Of Communists and Cubans...

Or how Fidel Castro eluded the CIA, or how Elian Gonzalez was kidnapped by the imperialists, or the second Cuban-American War, or how the Cuban Navy defeated Admiral Stark, or the third Cuban-American War, or the invasion of Grenada, or the Bay of Pigs revisited, or how the Cuban Navy sailed around the world, or how the Panama Canal was nationalized, or how Cuba became a Canadian Province.

It has begun.

To make Cuba really playable (which means to have fun too)...editing is required. I would guess that Cuba is, from the start, part of the Comintern

Excerpts - The Memoirs of Fidel Castro

Page 1

Many years ago, when I was a young boy, I began to gain a consciousness of myself and of the world. This, of course, was not an instantaneous event, but a slow process full of canyons, gorges, and mountains that ended with the creation of my self and the promise of what I would become. It was this process, not my birth, which began my life. When I was a boy working in the sugar cane fields I saw the people of my country suffer under the yoke of a group of institutions, traditions, and persons which formed a cabal that combined to thrust my country and my neighbors head first into the muddy soil of oppression…

Page 59

I was sent to Jesuit school where I studied universal history and other such subjects while the priests did not force us to chant as zombies. But this ‘universal history’ left out much, for the school was much like all schools then existing in Cuba, it was a school of reaction. Occasionally the priests would catch a boy reading a ratty illegal manuscript – Bakunin, Marx, Lenin, all. The priests threw such texts into raging fires, and nearly their readers as well. I was one of these readers, but unlike some of the other boys, I knew how to avoid getting caught. Already, I was melding into not just a boy – a young man – a man of scholarship, but into a man of action. Under the smothering metallic lid of authority, sometimes I boiled, sometimes I simmered, but always pressure pushed upon the lid, and always I was cooking, turning into the revolutionary that I was to be…

Page 137

I went to University of Havana, where I studied law, justice and other such things alien to Cuba and its people. I noticed also that the professors were poorly paid, and sometimes censored, but they taught us anyway in the vain hope that we might do our part to mend the Cuban disaster. I also noticed the humiliating Imperialist American exploitation of our people and our land, as it was impossible to escape in Cuba’s capital at that time. But escape it I somehow knew I would, as I moved towards the Moncada barracks in Santiago. Some time later, and after the deaths of many comrades, I descended into the mountains, the jungles and the swamps of Cuba. At one point there were only twelve of us, but twelve was enough. We scored victories against Batista’s dictatorship, and we grew…

Page 239

Six years later, I and the Cuban people emerged from the jungles. We set up a socialist government, and began the long process of rebuilding Cuba. In 1936, I never would have thought that I would one day sit again in the mountains with my AK-47 slung loosely over my shoulder, sure of only one thing, that I will never give up. The great dialectic of humanity, - imperialism, and, standing against it, socialism – will continue to rotate, forwards. And I will continue to play my part in that dialectic…

Ah yes. But that would be too easy now, wouldn't it?

BTW I am using CORE, and this AAR is a 'mini' one (at least compared to the Iraqi one). I am planning on starting a new one when 1.06 comes out.

-EDIT-

Yes, Castro is the head of state/government of Cuba in 1936.

To see the screenshots, you have to first go to

http://oxcart.100megsfree5.com/1.jpg

replace the 1 with 2, 3, etc. for more screenshots....

Then they should show up in the AAR.

Somewhere in Havana

January 1, 1936

Fidel Castro, Felipe Pelez Roque (Foreign Minister), Jose Luis Rodriguez (Economic Minister), Gen. Abelardo Colomé Ibarra (Interior Minister), and José Méndez Cominches (Intelligence Director) sit in a room talking quietly. The Brass have not yet arrived. Then the door swiftly opens, and General Batista (Chief of Staff and Army), Admiral Fuentes (Chief of Navy), and General del Toro (Chief of Air) stride into the room. As usual, behind General Batista follow several well armed, well trained Commissars. Castro sometimes wonders why he hasn’t replaced Batista with a more loyal candidate. But Castro is a military man himself, or at least he fancies himself as such, and he has the final say anyway. Perhaps he is just too lazy to create a whole batch of new generals, or perhaps he liked Batista’s skill of recruiting double the number of soldiers otherwise possible, or perhaps there really is no one else. Such were the rationalizations of Castro.

Castro – We have business to attend to. The Cuban Army is a proud force of two divisions, one of cavalry and one of infantry. I am putting Mj. General Perez Dameda in command of the field army because he starves the troops and generally refuses to waste supplies on them. He is what we guerrillas call a ‘logistics wizard.’

Gen. Batista – Bu…

Batista suddenly stops speaking as a Commisar taps on his shoulder with a short barreled AK-47

Castro – Further, we shall expand the Cuban Army in order to better defend against Imperialist aggression.

Castro – Now, our Navy consists of one, what do you call it Fuentes?

Adm. Fuentes – Coastal gunboat, sir.

Castro – Yes, of course. One coastal gunboat.

Castro – And Our Air Force is, well…

Gen. del Toro – We don’t have one.

Castro – Indeed, but I have instructed del Toro to install missile silos with which we can threaten the western hemisphere.

Gen. del Toro – I…

Gen. del Toro is cut off by a Commissar, as was Batista.

Castro – So anyway, I hereby order the liberation of our rightful territory, Miami, which is occupied by the Imperialist Americans. Operation Cuban Freedom will begin in a week.

Adm. Fuentes – Sir, with respect, our Navy is…

Castro – What, Fuentes? Are you not capable of the task at hand? All that stands between you and Cuban Freedom is the US Coast Guard. Surely that obstacle can be surmounted.

Adm. Fuentes – Well, we… don’t have any ships to transport our army to Miami…

Castro – Rodriguez, see to it that such ships are constructed. How long will this take?

Rodriguez – With research and construction, a little over a year, sir.

Roque – Comrade Castro, perhaps it would be wise to first exhaust all diplomatic options. We could demand that the Americans return Miami to Cuba, and perhaps form closer ties with our ideological brothers, the Soviets.

Castro – Alright Roque, you have until the transports are ready to pursue diplomatic options.

Castro – In the meantime, the Army will go on maneuvers and the Navy will conduct maneuvers and intelligence operations off the American coast.

Castro – Now, let us move on to the nationalization of the Imperialist holdings…

A barracks on the outskirts of Havana

February 3, 1936

F Company stands at attention before Captain Ferrara. Elsewhere in Cuba, other units are similarly lined up before their officers.

Cpt. Ferrara – Right men, we’re going on maneuvers.

Pvt. Hernandez groans to himself and Pvt. Portela.

Pvt. Hernandez – Oh #&*% no, not maneuvers…

Cpt. Ferrara – So, we will need to get everything ready, we are leaving in two days. Pack your packs, fill your canteens, get to work!

Along the Watchtower

February 6, 1936

Corporal VanLandingham, USMC, sat in the watchtower, minding his own business, munching on an MRE. The ‘steak…’ Regulations be damned, he thought. The sound of a loudspeaker projecting, ‘GO HOME, $%^#ING YANKEE IMPERIALISTS!’ VanLandingham casually picked up his binoculars and found a grimacing Cuban face staring back at him. VanLandingham replied as any good Marine would.

Cpl. VanLandingham - %$)%$ %$(*^ ^%$* #_%#)8#% %&@#%.

Ah, Guantanamo duty. Well, it could be worse. At least the government gave them gasp functioning rifles with gasp ammunition. Most of the Cuban Army was on maneuvers, but not the Guantanamo contingent, so things could get interesting. VanLandingham’s train of thought was interrupted by the sound of:

‘#$(#% $(%# YOUR MOTHER #$(A#%(.’

Right. Now it was serious.

Cpl. VanLandinham - YOUR GRANDMOTHER *)@$%* %A#(#%.

A Secure Phone Conversation Between Two Men in Havana

February 7, 1936

Castro – Yes?

Cominches – We have reports that the US Navy has at least three ships off our southern coast. They aren’t just going in and out of Guantanamo either, so they are probably monitoring our exercises.

Castro – Excellent.

A Winding, Mountainous, Dirt Road in Central Cuba

February 10, 1936

The men of F Company are tired, sweaty, dirty, and grumpy after 5 days of slugging along carrying all their equipment. Privates Hernandez and Portela walk forward side by side, with their squad leader, Sgt. Diaz about 5 meters ahead. Five hundred meters to their rear is Lt. Gonzalez, commander of a Cavalry platoon, though the infantrymen are not yet aware of this. Private Portela looks up ahead from the boots he has been staring at.

Pvt. Portela – Oh no, not another hill.

Sgt. Diaz – Just keep going.

Pvt. Hernandez – Hmmph, I am surprised I haven’t fallen over dead yet.

A minute passes. A sound begins to be audible. A… No, it couldn’t be. The clattering of hooves?

Pvt. Portela – Do you hear that?

Pvt. Hernandez – What?

Hernandez looks down the hill and behind them. The Cavalry runs up behind them, and Lt. Gonzalez yells at them.

Lt. Gonzalez – Get out of the way, Infantry! What in the name of God do you think you’re doing in the middle of the road?

The infantry reluctantly moves to the side of the road as the soldiers grumble. The Cavalry gallops onward, kicking large quantities of dirt into Hernandez’s face as they pass, causing him to cough.

Pvt. Hernandez – WATCH WHERE YOU’RE GOING, YOU $(@$*(@$!

Pvt. Portela – They think they’re so high and mighty, but we could massacre them with a machinegun, just like they did in the Great War.

Sgt. Diaz – That’s true, but we don’t have a machinegun.

Pvt. Herandez – Good point, sir.

Pvt. Portela – WELL THAT JUST… Life in the Cuban Army… I am sure we could scavenge up some sticks and make some pikes, or spears, or something, if we had to. OH…

One minute later and a considerable distance further on, Lt. Gonzalez says to the Cavalryman next to him:

Lt. Gonzalez - These maneuvers would go a lot more smoothly if the infantry knew to stay at the side of the road, where it belongs.

It begins to rain. Heavily.

On a Balcony in Havana

March 19, 1936

A bullet flies towards Castro’s head. It misses by four feet.

Castro – Haha, the CIA couldn’t hit an elephant from two feet away if it were already dead. COME ON! BRING IT ON! GIVE ME YOUR BEST SHOT! TRY AGAIN!

A bullet flies towards Castro’s head. It misses by seven feet. One of Castro’s bodyguards falls to the ground, clutching his right shoulder. Castro’s other bodyguards quickly lead him away to safety, or so they think.

So you're going for the big prize first?

Why not take it easy and annex or puppet a few Central American minors first?
